Kitala Health Centre
II (KHC II) is local community-owned facility located in Kitala Parish along
Entebbe. It is the only free of charge clinical facility serving Katabi
Sub-county with a total population of 104,335 (55,389 female). Each day, at
least 20 expectant women visit the center for antenatal care. Apart from these
at least 34 community members visit the facility for treatment of other ailments.
At the level of a
Health Center II, the facility is only mandated to provide basic health care
and antenatal services to women. However, when in labor, women stealthily approach
the midwife at the center to help them deliver their babies! This is appallingly
done in a very basic and unsafe way – on the floor, or on the in-charge’s
office desk, with not even the basic facilitation to the staff for the job. It’s
no surprise that many women choose to have labor in their homes or in other
poor standard facilities, resulting into several post-maternal complications on
them and the children, notwithstanding death in some cases.
Together with the
community of Katabi Sub-county (both social and corporate), the members of
Watoto church in this community and other well-wishers like you are running a campaign
to build a maternity facility at the health centre. This will give our expectant
ladies a safe affordable facility for antenatal care and most importantly a
safe place for them to be helped deliver our children.
This campaign is largely
purposed to address the need for a maternity ward at the health centre to
address these concerns.
Your generous
contribution will majorly guarantee the 3 things:
I)
upgrading the center to a Health Centre III status, thus
improved central government facilitation and funding raising
II)
raising the center’s mandate to handle ladies in labor
thus ensuring safe labor, healthy babies and mothers, and also
III)
more clinical staffing to the center (from the current
2) because of the upgrade to Health Centre III
